Latest New Roads in LED program

The state’s economic development department has selected eight communities, including New Roads, for the second phase of its Louisiana Development Ready Communities pilot program. The yearlong program prepares communities to compete with out-of-state sites for jobs, business development projects and capital investment.

Along with New Roads, led selected Covington, Eunice, Farmerville, Grambling, Gretna, Natchitoches and St. Martinville to participate in the program. In the first phase launched in October, Zachary was among a dozen communities to take part. Representatives of planning districts, utility companies and colleges helped LED review applications.

“Participating in the … program has forced us to measure our strengths and weaknesses,” DeRidder Mayor Ron Roberts said in a statement. “We now have 98 volunteers helping us develop our brand. Without this program, it would never have happened.”

The program is an extension of LED’s LouisianaCommunityNetwork.com, the agency‘s Web portal for community development.
